Final Reflection
Introduction
For this final evaluation I will be evaluating six categories of the e-learning course that I’ve completed. They are: Learning Outcomes, Expectations, Improvements, Motivation, E-learning Strategies and My Reflections.
Learning Outcomes
I think that this course has helped me to produce the learning outcomes that I expected before I started the course. In the beginning my expected learning outcomes were to be able to know, understand and say a few simple words and sentences that I need if I were to go to a Spanish speaking country and I have achieved this. The reason I know that I have achieved this is through personal judgement, that is for example by comparing my pronunciation with that of the voice from the course and by being able to do the exercises given correctly. But for me my personal judgment is not the most assuring measure, I still need a Spanish speaking person to give me feedback and their own judgement.
Expectations
The course has met my expectations in terms of its content, technological application and setting. The content of the course was really good, I think it exceeded my previous pessimistic view when I worried that the content and the activities the course offer was going to be dry and boring. Technologically, I was very happy that I did not have to have other computer applications to be able to accomplish the course which makes the course more available to lots of people. The audio and the visual effects such as video and moving words were very clear and made the learning more enjoyable. The setting of the course met my expectations as well in that the course was able to incorporate the speaking, listening and writing components of language learning. Also, the course was interactive as I wanted it to be.
Improvements
On the technological side, I think the course should have an application whereby the learner can speak into the microphone and the program would be able to measure the learner’s pronunciation. This would better the quality of the learning and would make the course more reliable as the learner may not need a Spanish speaking person to give them feedbacks on their pronunciation. On the content side, I don’t think there’s anything to change because I really thought that it was very good and covered the topics that I needed to know.
Motivation
My motivation increased as I started the course and stayed high throughout the four hours of the lessons. The factors behind my motivation have stayed the same but also been added by my excitement and curiosity towards the different topics and content of the course.
E-learning Strategies
I’m very glad that the course accommodated my learning style because it made the learning more enjoyable and easier to grasp. When the next time I will attempt the course I would still be only completing maximum one hour at a time, because sometimes I cannot concentrate more than that and would get bored (not because of the content of the course). The same situation applies in class based learning. But next time I would like to record the things that the courses teaches me more, so that I will be able to keep track on what I’ve learnt and be able to practice more without the need re-visit the site.
My Reflections
My reflections were based on my thoughts and feelings right after I’ve completed the course. I think by writing these reflections I’m able to see my progress in the course and be able to see objectively about the course. I’m still not used to writing reflections such as these or diary entries and blogging, but I think that this is a good method for learning because people can express not only their explicit knowledge but also their tacit knowledge which is more important and difficult to articulate and learn. ConclusionOverall, I am very pleased about the course in terms of its content, technological application and setting. Although, my judgement might change after I’ve had more experience with other e-learning courses because I will then be able to compare this course with others. It was an enjoyable learning experience that opened up the possibility for further e-learning experiences.
